Grand Knight’s Column

 Brother Knights

I would like to start this month’s column by wishing all Mothers a Very Happy Mothers Day. And in keeping with the Council’s tradition we will be handing out Carnations to all the mothers after each of the Masses on May 13th and 14th.

It appears that the distribution of the newsletter via email has been a success. I have received a number of nice comments on our use of the PDF format, which made it easy for everyone to be able to read the newsletter.

Our Parish breakfast and membership blitz generated around 200 individuals coming to the Parish Center after the 7:30AM and 9:30AM Masses. We did get one transfer at the breakfast and several others indicated that they were considering transferring their membership. Also a couple of individuals who are currently not Knights took home literature to read. I want to Thank Bob Marrah for heading up this event and for all the Brothers and ladies who came out to help.

According to the reports from Supreme our quota for the year ending June 30, 2006 is 5 new members and 3 insured members. As of the end of April we had 4 new members and 1 new insurance member. If we are to qualify for STAR Council we will need to get at least one additional new member and 2 additional members to purchase insurance. Of our existing membership base we only have 25% of the members who are insured members the remaining 75% are associate members. With less then 2 months remaining this council year is it possible that 2 of our members would be interested in becoming insured members. The easiest way if you do not want to take out a life insurance policy would be to purchase an annuity of at least $300. So if any of the associate members want to help us reach STAR Council please consider the idea of an insurance policy or annuity. You can contact Ron Foley our Insurance Rep. or me and I will get you set up with Ron so we can make our quota this year.

A reminder for any Brother who has not made his 3rd degree, there will be a 3rd degree exemplification on Saturday June 10th at the Fruitville Road Council 3358 beginning at 11:00AM, If you are interested in receiving your 3rd degree please let me know by the June 1st business meeting.

We are currently working on the schedule of activities for the next Council year and hope to have that schedule finalized for our June meeting.

Fraternally yours in Christ

John Pecilunas, Grand Knight

Faithful Navigator Report

May, 2006

Dear Sir Knights and Ladies:

First and foremost, I want to wish all the Mothers out there, a “Happy Mothers Day.”

Our biggest event of the year is almost upon us.  Our annual “Patriotic Ball” will be held on Saturday, May 20th this year.  As you know, it is our chance to recognize the Serviceman or Servicewoman of the year, from MacDill Air Force Base.  So far, it seems that we won’t be enjoying the same support we had last year from the other surrounding Assemblies, because a Fourth Degree Exemplification is being held on the same weekend as our Patriotic Ball, and many members of those Assemblies will be attending.  For this reason, we need your support more than ever!  Without enough support, we can stand to actually lose money on this event, and our Assembly cannot afford to do that.  In recent years, there has been a “downward trend” of our members supporting our own events.  At many recent events, about two thirds of the patrons were NOT Members of the Knights of Columbus!  More and more, we have to look to the people outside the Knights to support us.  We need to change that trend.  Sir Knights, Knights and Ladies; The time is getting near, so if you haven’t bought your tickets yet, PLEASE do so soon.  I assure you that you will have an enjoyable evening.  The Tickets are $20pp and you will get a Prime Rib Dinner with all the fixings, provided by John Joseph, and entertainment provided by “Double Density.”  All the Fourth Degree Officers have tickets, so please purchase yours soon.

This is the month that the Nominating Committee will announce its slate of Officer Nominees for the next term.  It is also a time when anyone can be nominated from the floor, so if you have aspirations of eventually becoming a Faithful Navigator, this is your chance to work toward that goal by becoming an Officer.  I would like to thank this years’ Nominating Committee, which consisted of: PGK, FDD, PFN Joe Galestro; PGK, FDD, PFN John Rogge; PFN, Sal Naimo; PFN, Sam Perri; PFN, Don Donovan.  Thank you all for what I am sure will be, a job well done.

Color Corps members; please mark your calendars for Sunday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 24th.  On the 14th, Council 3358 is having a “Mothers Day Corporate Communion” at St. Martha’s Church at 9am.  On the 24th, there will be a “Memorial Mass” said at our hall at 7pm. God Bless You All

Council #13307 -Ladies Auxiliary

Dear Ladies

Happy summer days to you all.  Because so many people will be taking vacations or traveling, the ladies have voted not to have meetings during the months of June, July, and August.  Our next meeting will be held on the first Thursday in September.

We have two new members, Diane Kosey and Laurie Del Prete, to our group, we are so happy to have you.

We drew two charities of the month this month, and they are Redemption House and Juvenile Diabetes Association.  Checks will be sent to both of them.  Chris Boucher was the lucky 50/50 winner this month.

The Knights have asked us to bake desserts for the upcoming “Altar Servers Awards” to be held on June 8, 2006.  Please call me and let me know what you will bring so I can give them a count and they will know if they need to purchase anything.  It is best to call me on my cell phone.  My cell number is (941) 232-0785.

Please attend the next Corporate Communion Mass on May 21, 2006 at the 11:30 a.m. Mass.

If you hear of any member that is ill, please notify Geri Welsh at 371-8667.  Please pray for peace and for our men and women serving in the military.

GOOD ADVICE

Remember your teacher’s good advice?  “Always start each project with an outline.  It will give you the right direction.”  Experience tells us that the same idea works when it comes to getting ahead on the job----or in planning for individual or family security.  But, in the latter kind of planning, your outline cannot be completed alone.

Rely on the trained advice of your Knights of Columbus Insurance Agent and the Order’s long and practical experience in the life insurance business to help you prepare your plans for the years ahead.  I will be happy to help you chart and build a sound economic future.  Better yet, I’ll do it with an individual insurance plan keyed to your own needs and goals.

This sort of professional counsel is available at absolutely no obligation—just through a telephone call to me for an appointment.  Today, when programming is essential to effective use of the do-everything computer, it is equally so to the fulfillment of our own dreams and hopes for our families.  Life insurance programming is a service you should have—and one that I provide.

CALL ME TODAY, RON FOLEY, AT (941) 776-2902.

I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Fraternally, Ronald A. Foley, Field Agent
