Chaplain’s Column:

I am sure we have all made resolutions by now intended to make us a more perfect human being in one way or another. But I wonder how many of us made the most important resolution-one that would help us keep most of our other resolutions. We should all have resolved to have a more abiding inner faith--a faith in God that will make us that more perfect human being.

It is not by our will alone that we accomplish those goals that we have set out for ourselves. It is through the will of God, when He answers our prayers, that enable us to become a more perfect being, as God is perfect

The Magi had that inner faith as they followed the Bright Star in the heavens for they believed that the Star would lead them to the promised Messiah as foretold by the prophets When they arrived at the stable in Bethlehem and saw the Babe wrapped in swaddling cloth, they had the inner faith to believe that this little Baby was truly the Messiah- the one promised to come to be the King of all Kings.

My prayer for all of you is that you continue to keep God in your hearts and daily prayers so, like the Magi—you will always have that inner faith.

May God bless you and sustain you

Fr. George Brennan, Chaplain

Grand Knight’s Column

 Brother Knights

January 2006 brings many changes; a new calendar year with all its personal resolutions that we each made on New Years Eve, also changes with the resignation of Brother Ozro Barclay as our Grand Knight for the past 18 months and my becoming your Grand Knight.

I want to personally take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to him for his total dedication to this Council and his untiring efforts to make this an outstanding Council and all of us proud to be members of Council #13307. We are not sure when Oz will actually be moving from Sarasota to Arkansas, but he will surely be missed.  In the meantime, we will continue to put him to work in

Grand Knight’s column (cont)

helping us all continue to make this an outstanding council.

This year will bring many opportunities and challenges for our Council to work on. We need to find ways that we can get more participation from our fellow brothers at our meetings, our Corporate Masses and our other events. We also need to bring in more parishioners as Brother Knights. Remember that in order for our council to be a vibrant and growing council, each of us need to go out and ask our fellow parishioners to join us. When was the last time you asked someone to join our Council?

Our annual retreat is scheduled for Saturday, January 21st, beginning with the Mass at 8AM. Farther Carl will be presiding over this years retreat. All the members of the Council and their spouses are encouraged to attend this time of reflection and prayer.

I look forward to receiving your support and prayers as we move ahead in 2006.

Fraternally yours in Christ

John Pecilunas, Grand Knight.

Council #13307 –Ladies Auxiliary

 Dear Ladies:

Happy New Year! May this New Year be blessed with good health and happiness for all. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president for this coming year. I know that I can count on all of you for your support and cooperation in our forthcoming activities. Many thanks to our outgoing officers for a job well done. They are a tough act to follow. But I know that our new team of officers is definitely up to the task.

Our first meeting of the new year on Thursday, January 5, 2006 was well attended. Things are progressing well for all of our activities planned so far for this year. Marge Barclay has everything ready to go for the “Big Show” on January 27th. She distributed tickets for the show to all the ladies

present at the meeting to start selling. She has fliers ready for the masses on Sunday to be placed at the Holy Water Fountain. Our “Angel Quilt” is finished

Ladies Auxiliary (cont)

and will be on display during all masses on January 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd. Some of our ladies volunteered to sell tickets for the “Big Show” and the quilt at each mass. The winner of the “Angel Quilt will be drawn at the “Big Show” on January 27th. The ladies volunteered to bake cakes and cookies for the intermission of the “Big Show”.

Corky Pezzati has made all the arrangements for the fashion show and luncheon to be held in March at the Laurel Oaks Country Club. It was agreed by all to have a slice of fruit pie for dessert at the Fashion Show Luncheon to lower the cost of the ticket.  Corky suggested the name “Marching into Spring” as the theme of the Fashion Show. We all agreed. Some ladies volunteered to be models and some volunteered to assist at the greeting tables. Marie Palazzo volunteered to be the name taker for the fashion show and coordinate the names with the security guard at Laurel Oaks for entrance at the gatehouse. Lindsay Evans offered some suggestions for raffle baskets and suggested we do a Chinese Auction this year. Corky will make arrangements with the church office to put an announcement in the bulletin for the Fashion Show and select dates to sell tickets before and after all masses.

We have also started collecting dues for the year 2006. Rosemary Biondolillo has graciously volunteered to be our Membership Chairperson again this year.

The Knights are having a retreat on Saturday, January 21st at 8:00AM until 2:00PM and the Ladies and all family members are invited to attend. Please make an effort to join them with Father Carl at this spiritual and enlightening event. And it is FREE. Breakfast will be supplied. but you must bring a brown bag lunch. Sodas and chips will be supplied. Call Grand Knight John Pecilunas at 379-4047 if you have not already signed up.

Corporate Mass will be on January 15th at the 11:30 AM mass. Please attend with or without your husband.

Our next meeting will be Thursday February 2, 2006 at 7:00 PM. Please make every effort to attend. We are busy with current events and will be planning future events for the remainder of the year. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hope to see you there.

Please pray for peace and for our men and women serving in the military.

God bless and keep all of you.

Knights Of Columbus. Insurance

Brother Knights

Well, it is a start of a brand new year. And with the start of the year, we make resolutions to take better care of ourselves, lose weight, keep in touch with old friends and make new ones. But how many people make a resolution to become aware of their financial futures.

Are you aware of the benefits of belonging to the Knights of Columbus? Are you aware that you and your wife are covered by accidental insurance by virtue of being a paid-up member? When was the last time you reviewed your annuity, IRAS, Cash values or the currency of your beneficiaries on your life insurance policies? Many people buy life insurance policies and never review or check their coverage. Should I increase my coverage? Should I take an annuity or leave money in a CD?  What are the advantages/disadvantages of long-term care?

K of C agents are trained professionals who can answer these and any other questions pertaining to your financial future. We can help you develop a plan to protect your family in those golden years. So along with your new years resolutions, make your first resolution to contact me at 941-776-2902 to go over your situation, personally, in your own home at your convenience

Thou art my hiding place…from distress you keep me

                        Psalm 32:7

            MY HIDING PLACE

Oh Lord, You are my hiding place

I’m safe, secure in your embrace,

And when my life’s a stormy sea,

I find a refuge, Lord, in thee.

Oh Lord, You are my hiding place,

A haven from life’s hectic pace

Where daily cares can seek release

And my heart finds a wondrous peace.

Oh Lord, You are my hiding place,

A quiet spot where face to face

We can commune in sacred prayer.

My heart is blest each time I’m there.

Oh Lord, You are my hiding place.

In you I find sufficient grace,

And when from turmoil I would flee

I find a refuge, Lord, in Thee

         FAITH

I have learned a lot

 in my golden years

How to deal with pain,

Suffering and fears

I know that faith

Is the light of my life,

It sustains me through periods

Of sorrow and strife.

Faith is what moves

My mountain of despair.

It helps me to cope

When l9fe seems unfair.

 It lifts me up high

When I am sinking low,

It carries me through life

Until the good times flow.

Faith is what tends

To all of my needs,

It’s the spiritual food

On which my soul feeds.
