March 2005 Newsletter

Chaplain’s Column:

Brother Knights

We are approaching the end of our Lenten observance, when our Lord, Jesus Christ will have been raised from the dead, a death He suffered to take away our sins. However, too many of us will soon forget his pain and suffering that preceded his death and we will once more allow ourselves to be tempted to fall back into our old habits. Let us try to remember the promises we made to God this Lenten Season throughout the rest of our lives, that when the time we are called, our passage into the Glorious Kingdom of God will be a certainty.

So now, may the joys of our Easter Season be with you always

May the Blessings of our Lord be ever with you.

Father George Brennan, Chaplain

Grand Knight’s Column

Brother Knights

It is my pleasant duty to inform all that we have now reached 92 members within the council. It would be great if, during these membership drive months of March and April, we would be able to attain 100 members through transfer, re-instatement or new members. Remember, most Catholic men are not joining our council because they just haven’t been asked, or possibly benefits and the precepts of the Organization have not been fully explained. The question was raised in our meeting on March 3rd as to how many of us carry membership applications with us, either on our person or in our car. Most present at the meeting did not.

We have many reasons to be proud of our Council. It has been very noticeable that all members are pulling together and accepting various duties and responsibilities. Of particular notice is how efficient the members are working the Lenten Fish Dinners. The kitchen operates very smoothly, with members coming in setting up the serving lines and helping with the serving with little supervision. When someone needs relief to eat with his family, another member jumps in to take his place. Clean up is accomplished very rapidly and everyone is out of the hall by 8:00PM. This is a Council of which we all can be proud.

Happy and Joyous Easter!

Yours in Christ

Ozro N. Barclay, Grand Knight.

Handicap Drive

Our thanks go out to Brother Ron Kosey and to the men of the council who “shook the can” at the Masses at our Church and at the store for our Handicap Drive.  The Drive was very successful and The Special Olympics of Sarasota will shortly be receiving their check when it is received back from the State Council.

Congratulations

Faithful Navigator Report

Dear Sir Knights and Ladies

I would like to thank the Color Commander S.K. Mike Boccarossa and the Color Corp for a fine showing at St.Thomas Moore Corporate Communion with 16 members and their “Ladies of the Knight”. It was an honor for us to carry in procession the “International Pilgrim Virgin” from Fatima on Monday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day at St. Martha Church in honor of the Year of the Holy Eucharist. We had 14 Sir Knights in regalia marching from the Church to Main Street.

I’m sorry to say that we had to cancel our Baseball game concession stand due to lack of support. We had to postpone our class of 2005 dinner that was to be held on Feb 19, 2005 to April 30 2005, because there were not enough members signed up for the “free “ dinner.

Please sell tickets for our Spanish night dinner, cooked by our own Faithful Captain, Peter Sardina, which will be on Saturday, March 12. Happy hour from 6:00PM till 7:00 PM with dinner following. Officers meeting at 7:30 pm on March 10, 2005 and the regular General Meeting at the hall on Thursday, March 24th at 8:ooPM

Fraternally, Your Faithful Navigator ,Don Donovan

Council #13307 –Ladies Auxiliary

Dear Ladies

I’m happy to report that we had a very productive meeting in March, and I want to thank all the ladies that were present. I realize that I always say this, but it would be nice if we could have a better turn out for our meetings. We discussed different projects for the coming year, and can always use more ideas and suggestions

If you haven’t already done so and would like to order a nametag, please let me know and I’ll be happy to order one for you. .

Congratulations to Marge Barclay our lucky 50/50 winner –and also the winner of the beautiful “Mary Kay” door prize at our Fashion Show and Luncheon….

Sorry some of you missed the “surprise” our Grand Knight Oz had at the men’s social night in February. Two fabulous and talented men, different styles, entertained us, but both could really belt out a song. And as if that wasn’t enough, we also had a very interesting and informative speaker from Manatee County Criminal Investigative Department on “Forensic Science” investigative work.

I would lie to say thank you, thank you to Marge Barclay and Phyllis Capriola for attending and helping the men with all the fish Fry’s—and for baking a cake for each one. The Knights did a wonderful job and we had nothing but compliments of how delicious the fish was, --and it was delicious.

Kudos to Gerri Welch and Jenni McGinn for a job well done for the Luncheon and Fashion Show. We had a really good turnout—the food was out of this world—and the clothes and jewelry were beautiful. I think everyone that attended had a lovely afternoon—and some lucky ladies went home with one of our many prizes.  It was a team effort to get this off and running—and thanks to everyone also who pitched in to make it a success.

Ladies, just a reminder once again to please join your husbands on the third Sunday of the month at the 11:30 Mass for the “Corporate Communion. It would be wonderful to show our support and have a good turnout

Keep our “under the weather members in your prayers. If you know of any member that is ill, please give Josephine Spellman a call.

I’d like to wish everyone a blessed and Happy Easter.

Let us pray for peace, our men and women in the service and for our family and friends

God Bless. Loretta L. Naimo, President

Congratulations to Marie Becker, Our “lady of the Month”
