The Sarasota Compass

Chaplain’s Column:

I would first like to congratulate my fellow Knights for the impact that they have made and are continuing to make on the Congregations of ST. Patrick’s Church since the Council received its Charter in March of 2003. During the past 18 months, the council has contributed to the up-keep of the Church, is supporting a seminarian, has recognized our Altar Servers, instituted a Spelling Bee and a Substance Abuse Poster Contests, Supporting the Church’s Outreach Program, and doing many acts of Charity within our surrounding communities.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Council are also to be commended for their support of the council’s activities, the lovely butterfly quilt that they raffled off and lastly, the outstanding musical program they brought to our Parish Hall on January 7th.

It is quite noticeable that the Congregations of the Church are drawing closer together through your concerted efforts. As your Spiritual Advisor, I will ever ask Our Lord to be with all of you, keeping you safe and healthy that you may continue His works and that the council will grow in numbers.

May the Blessings of our Lord be ever with you.

Father George Brennan,  Chaplain

Grand Knight’s Column

Brother Knights

Congratulations to the Ladies Auxiliary for the outstanding  “Big Show “ that was held on January 6th. The entertainer was Cahal Dunne, an Irish Tenor who sang and played the piano, captivating the entire audience. More shows will be planned for the future.

There is some criticisms that communication within the Council is lax or non-existent. Since the beginning of this fraternal year, we have established a web site for the members to keep abreast of happenings, established an e-mail address for the Council and have repeatedly asked for members e-mail addresses that can be used to inform members of any news of an immediate nature. In today’s age of technology this is the best way to disseminate events or happenings. However a call will be put out at the next meeting for ten volunteers to help establish a phone tree that will be used to inform members of meetings, news etc.

At any time that there is something in the Council that either bothers you or you believe could be done better, please call me and let me hear it. This Grand Knight knows one thing for sure--- that he is not perfect and does make mistakes, but he is willing to listen and will try to make corrections, if possible, for the benefit of the Council.

May the Good Lord hold each of you and your families in the Palm of His Hand until we meet again.

Ozro N. Barclay,  Grand Knight.

Congratulations

4th Degree Assembly #0167

Faithful Navigator Report

Dear Sir Knights and Ladies

I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas and I wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year.

I was very dismayed how Christ was taken out of Christmas by the medical field, schools and our Government. Driving around Sarasota, I saw lots of lights, ornaments, plastic snowmen, etc., but rarely did I see a nativity scene. Our country will be a sorry place without God or Christ.

We have 13 new Knights who have received their 4th degree during the Exemplification. They are Paul Britton, Renato Carotti, David Corneau, Charles Culkin. Andrew Evans, David Hall, David Hurt, Wilfred Lussier, James Murphy, Kenneth O’Gorman, Jorge Sardina, Brian Tennyson, and Thomas Daniels. We welcome them into our Assembly.

There will be a 4th degree Officers meeting on January 13, at 7:30 PM at the Hall.  There will be a corporate Communion at St Patrick’s Church at 11:30 AM on January 16, 2005. All Color Corps members are asked to be there. The 4th degree general meeting will be on January 27, 2005 at 8:00 PM This will be a Mass and Renewal of Vows.  In addition, there will be a “Blessing of  the Swords”. Dress code is Tuxedos and social Balwic. Wives are encouraged to be there for the occasion.

Fraternally, Your Faithful Navigator Don Donovan

Council #13307 –Ladies Auxiliary

Dear Ladies

It is with great pleasure to report that we had a nice turnout for our meeting last month. However, it would be nice if more of us could attend our meetings whenever possible. Aside from the officers, I’d like to thank the few other ladies that have attended all the meetings; your dedication is appreciated.

Diane handed out the nametags that were ordered. We still have some for the members that were not present. Anyone interested in ordering one can do so at our next meeting.

I’m happy to report that our “Big Show” was a huge success and everyone that attended enjoyed Cahal Dunne. Special thanks to Marge Barclay for putting this together and to Marie Becker for making and donating the “butterfly quilt” for our raffle. We did very well with that also.  And, I might add that the lady that won (Judy Reeves) was so excited I believe that she was walking on air. All the cookies left after the show were packed and donated to Resurrection House. They were very appreciative for the donation made to them. Thanks John, for delivering them for us.

A quick reminder that our next meeting will be held on Thursday February 3rd, 2005 at 7PM in the parish hall. I’m hoping that we will have a nice turnout.

Ladies, please try and join us, ride in with your husbands, as you know that their meeting is on the same night and the Grand Knight is always kind enough to invite us for refreshments. .

We started to collect dues for the year 2005, so please remember for our next meeting.

Our “Winter Wonderland” Dinner/Dance is just around the corner, and I’m hoping we have a good turn out that evening. Barbara Piccione handed out tickets to sell and has everything under control.

Ladies, please join your husbands the third Sunday of every month at the 11:30 Mass for the Corporate Communion. It will be so nice if we could show our support and have a large turnout.

Geri Welch will be handing out tickets for the “Fashion Show and Luncheon “ which will be held March 5th at Laurel Oaks Country Club at our February Meeting.

So here we go again Ladies,  get busy and sell those tickets. She will need models, so give it a thought and let her know if you are interested.

Congratulations to Barbara Piccione who was the lucky winner of the 50/50

If you know of any member that is under the weather, please let our “sunshine lady” Josephine a call at 379-0597.

Hope to see you all at the next meeting. Let us pray for each other and for peace. When you think you’re at the end of your rope, tie a knot and just hang on

God Bless. Loretta L. Naimo, President

Congratulations

Supreme Council--- Recruiting

Will you recruit our 1.7 millionth Member?

The Knights of Columbus is fast approaching a major milestone in membership---its 1.7 millionth member. The 1.7millionth member and his Recruiter will win a trip to New Haven to visit landmarks like St. Mary’s Church, where the Knights of Columbus was founded. To mark this tremendous achievement, a limited casting of cuff links will be made and presented to the 1.7th millionth member, his recruiter, State Deputy, State Membership Director, District Deputy and Grand Knight. Could that recruiter and 1.7 millionth member be from our Council??

Field Agents Letter:

February ---Tax Time Again

This month, I chose to pass up the opportunity to use the old cliché about two things that we must do…..although the timing should certainly bring it to mind.

This season, in most homes, is financial time. I’d like to wager that, at some time in the process, someone will ask (probably you)”where does all our money go?” Surely, all that we earn finds a home somewhere…the grocer, the mortgages, the tax man, etc. Very little, if any, is left over for a personal bank account or other investments. Most of us consider ourselves fortunate if we’ve managed to pay all our bills! Folks usually save what is left over …and to most folks that is nothing.

The point is, whatever the amount earned, chances are good that it is spent providing for and rearing a family. Think about that for a minute.  The needs of the family continue----food, shelter, clothing, education---even if the breadwinner suffers an untimely death.

So what does tax time have to do with insurance? Simply this…it can serve as a reminder that protection for dependents should include an estimate of the current needs for money. While it may be convenient to say “I can’t afford it” that’s probably not accurate ---when you consider that your family will be without any income should you die.

With this in mind, your Order has designed a plan that guarantees to continue income to your family for as long as they need it.  What’s more, this plan will enable you to systematically save some of those dollars so difficult to account for at tax time.

Call me today for an appointment. I want to hear from you!
