Grand Knight’s Column

Brother Knights

How the time flies by!  Over a third of the fraternal year has been completed and we are near the Thanksgiving Holidays. In spite of the weather in August and September, we had a successful Harvest Moon Ball and have helped our Church by contributing to needed roof repairs. Unfortunately, it was necessary to cancel our golf-outing on Dec 4th due to lack of participation and support There is another project in mind and a call will be made in December for a chairman to oversee it. Our church narrowly escaped being damaged by Hurricane Jeanne. Plywood has been bought several years ago to protect the windows of the Church and possibly the Parish Hall. A suggestion has been made to Fr George that our council, with the help of volunteers from the congregation could devote a few weekends in February or March to prepare the windows and plywood for our next hurricane season. Hopefully, our council will step forth and be the nucleus to get this work accomplished. The Grace of our Lord spared our church over the past years, but how long will it last?

Soon our thoughts will be on the Advent and Christmas Seasons. Let us remember all our Brother Knights or Families  and members of our Church who are less fortunate than we are due to a death, sickness or other misfortune, and extend a hand of  kindness and charity to them.

Your Grand Knight wishes to extend his gratitude and prayers of thanks to all members of the Council who worked hard to make my job so easy in this past quarter.

Please remember our Special Mass on November 18th to thank our Altar Servers. It will mean so much to them for the Council to make a good presence. Remember also the Dinner Dance on December 10th. Call Fred Price at 371-8368 to get your tickets to sell. Lets make this an outstanding event.

My wife and I now pray that Our Lord will bless you and your Families this Thanksgiving Holiday and hold all in the Palm of His Hand

Your Grand Knight

Ozro N. Barclay

Chaplain’s Column

Dear Brother Knights

Merry Christmas to you, your spouses, and families.

This holy season reminds us of the true nature of love. John’s gospel says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son…” God not only tells us that we are loved, in Christ, God shows us how much he loves us. Words can be casually spoken, empty of intention or sincerity. Actions are visible words. “I love you” is spoken with much more meaning when it is said with a hug, a kiss, or a gift.  This is what our heavenly Father does at Christmas. He loves us in a fleshly, intimate way in the baby Jesus. God becomes one like us, and for us!

Immediately after giving birth, Mary places the baby Jesus in a manager. The manger is where food is put for the cattle. Jesus, at his birth, comes to be food for the world. Bethlehem, the town where Jesus is born, means “house of bread”. It is impossible not to see the reality of the Eucharist in the Christmas story. Jesus is the “bread of life”. How blessed are we as Catholics to have the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, the greatest gift we can receive at Christmas.

The Holy Father Pope John Paul II has declared this as the Year of the Eucharist. It is my hope that our council will sponsor events that can make our parish a “house of bread”.  The Holy Father is encouraging parishes to promote the Holy Eucharist in both celebration and education. The Lord blesses those that come to love him in the Eucharist. Now we must give him as a gift to others

Faithfully yours in Christ

Father Michael A. Scheip, Chaplain

Faithful Navigator Report

Dear Sir Knights and Ladies

We have had a busy month with the Veterans Day Parade, open House for New Candidates for the 4th Degree on Nov 12, Past Faithful Navigator dinner on Nov 12, Corporate Communion at Incarnation Church on Nov 14, with Thanksgiving to come on Nov 25 and the 4th Degree Exemplification at Orlando on Nov 26,27 and 28.

Seven reasons why Knights should join the 4th Degree:

The fourth Degree is a group of outstanding Knights of Columbus dedicated to promoting patriotism enlightened by the Catholic Faith.

It works for the application of Christian principles in all levels of government.

It calls upon its members to distinguish themselves with heroic deeds for God, Country, and for or Order.

It supports such religious, civic, and charitable causes as are consistent with its high ideals.

It opposes the institution and development of forces inimical to good Christian government.

It educates its members and the world at large to be defenders of our democratic institutions.

It is the highest degree in our Order, giving a greater knowledge and appreciation of our Catholic heritage.

Fraternally, Your Faithful Navigator Don Donovan

Council #13307 –Ladies Auxiliary

I’m happy to report that at our November meeting we had 15 members present and one guest, Jean Delaney

We were happy to welcome Jean , and hopefully she will join us at our next meeting. Come on, Jean, we’re waiting with open arms.

At our October meeting, I’m delighted to report, we had four new members join our group. I would like to mention their names and welcome them once more: Barbara Bennington, Jan Coats, Lindsay Evans, and Sue Price. Once again Ladies, we are very happy to have you aboard.

Diane handed out the name tags that were ordered and some other members that were not at the October meeting ordered theirs.  They really came out great, and now we should always be sure to wear them at our meetings so we can identify the name with the face. If you are like me,  (I never forget a face) sometimes I can’t put the name and face together. Now I’ll be able to do so.

A quick reminder of the Altar Servers Mass on November 18 at 7:00 PM at which time the Knights will honor the Servers. A reception will be in the Parish Hall after the Mass and we have agreed to furnish the desserts. Also our next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 2nd at 7PM in the parish hall. I’m hoping that we have a nice turn out for our last meeting of 2004. Ladies, please try to join us, ride in with your husbands  and we always join them for refreshments.

At this time I would like to thank our Grand Knight, Oz Barclay ( and our past Grand Knight Chuck Biondolillo) for including us after our meeting for those delicious refreshments this past year.

Ladies, please join your husbands the third Sunday of each month at the 11:30 Mass for the “corporate Communion” It would be so nice if we could show our support and have a nice turnout.

Marge Barclay has everything ready to go for the “Big Show” on January 7th. She handed all the ladies present at our meeting tickets to start selling, so, Ladies, “Lets get busy and start selling those tickets.”

Our “Butterfly Quilt” is finished as I mentioned before, and Father George has given us permission to display the quilt and sell raffle tickets after each Mass in December. We plan on announcing the winner at our “Big Show” in January.

Barbara Piccione will have some information on our “Winter Wonderland” Dinner and dance at our next meeting. Judging from the “Luau”, I’m certain she will have a full and thorough report.

Geri Welch is looking into the “Fashion Show and Luncheon” which will be held in March. She’ll need some models, so give it some thought and let her know if you are interested.

Jenni McGinn graciously donated her winnings of the 50/50 raffle back to the auxiliary for deposit. Thank you, thank you.

If you know of any member that is under the weather, please give our “sunshine lady” Josephine a call at 379-0597

Hope to see you all on November 18th and at our next meeting. Let us pray for peace and each other. The only failure is not knowing how to be happy

God Bless. Loretta L. Naimo, President

Politics and the Knights of Columbus

During a recent social event in another council, two Knights began a heated argument about politics. . The purpose of this paragraph is to remind all of our Council members politics of any nature are not to be discussed in or at any Knights of Columbus meeting, business or social, or otherwise.  Failure to comply with this ruling could result in serious repercussions for the parties involved.

Ozro N. Barclay, Grand Knight

Insurance

At one time or another, every family man’s thoughts will turn to the state of affairs that his family might be in  if a sudden illness or accident would cause his death.  Many times, wives have those thoughts also. These thoughts usually occur when a close relative or friend is faced with the realization that  financial circumstances have changed due to an illness or accident and future plans must be changed. It is my responsibility as a brother Knight and your insurance representative to meet with you and your family to help in these matters by reviewing your insurance ,your plans and circumstances before the need might arise .
