Grand Knight’s Column
Brother Knights
Hurricane Charlie! Hurricane Frances! Hurricane Ivan! Hurricane Jeanne! We pray that Florida will be spared any
more of these devastating storms. Because of them, so many in this state are in need of so much help to be able to get their lives back in some semblance of order. Please do what you can to help them Support our Church’s
Outreach Program and other organizations as Catholic Charities.
The Ladies Auxiliary held their Hawaiian Luau on September 17th . Because of Jeanne, it was necessary
to cancel the Free Parish Breakfast on September 26. The event was rescheduled for Sunday October 10, but was cancelled due
to the fact that the refrigerator and freezer were without power for about 12 hours. We could not take the chance that one
child or adult member of the congregation would get food poisoning
Tickets for the Harvest Moon Ball have been on sale by members of the council. All signs point to this being a successful
event.
As October is the “Month of the Rosary”, plans have been made by Fr. Scheip and Brother Becker for an
evening of the Rosary and an explanation of the new “mysteries” on our social night, 0ctober 2. Please mark your
calendar and plan to attend.
Your Grand knight has worked out a plan with Father George for recognizing our Alter Servers on Nov 18.
He will ask members of the council to help in the event. It will be a “ Mass of Thanks” to be held
in the Church.
Now, it is my unpleasant duty to inform you that our Financial Secretary, Mike Kuhnle, has resigned from his post
on September 27. Contact has been made with the Supreme Council to have a new member appointed as soon as possible to that
post.
And now, May Our Lord and Savior watch over you and your Families now and forever!
Your Grand Knight

Chaplain’s Column
Dear Brother Knights
Up north you can tell that fall has arrived by the changing of the leaves. Here in Sarasota, you can tell that
it is autumn by the changing colors of license plates.
Change is very much a part of life, both personally and culturally. Everything from clothing styles to car designs
change from year to year. Jesus said that unless we become like little children, we cannot see the Kingdom of God. As Catholic
Christians we too must change. But the change required for us is not the change the world seeks; change for changes sake,
change in order to be different, with a persistent hunger for novelty. The change that God requires is a turning more deeply
and intentionally to the unchanging teachings of the Catholic faith. We change by becoming less influenced by our changing world, becoming more like
Christ who is the “same yesterday, today, and forever.
Our Holy Father has declared this as the Year of the Eucharist. He wants every parish to have a change of heart
and practice in it’s Eucharistic piety. Our Knights council does a wonderful job in preparing meals and sponsoring events
like the Harvest Ball; we are known for our tasty dishes. Maybe we can put the same effort into promoting the Eucharist, the
heavenly banquet this coming year, so that we can be recognized for serving pancakes and pasta as well as promoting Holy Communion,
God’s soul food.
Faithfully yours in Christ

Faithful Navigator Report
Dear Sir Knights and Ladies
The 9-11 Mass to honor our fallen Knights, firefighters and police had a very disappointing turnout. Including
Father John Mullen, we had only 20 knights and ladies in attendance. We need to
have more involvement in these special events from both councils. This was a day that changed history and our security forever,
and helped create the beginning of the war in Iraq.
On September 23, we had 3 drawings of $25.00 each for the 20 Week Dinner Dance. There are still 17 more weekly
drawings ,plus 3 large jackpots to be given away at our Dinner/Dance on January 15, 2005. Please buy your tickets for your
chance to win. You do not need to be present to win.
On October 29th at 6:00PM, we will be having our annual Italian Dinner, cooked by Sir Knight Sam Perri,
PFN. This dinner was a huge success last year and we’d like to make it even bigger this year. Tickets are only $6.50
each and proceeds go to one of our charities..
Everyone going for certification for 4th degree exemplification must have their dues paid as soon as
possible. We are having an open house on November 12 for all new members, wives and guests, with information and answers to
questions.
November 11, we will be participating in the Veterans Day Parade….just a reminder for all color corps members.

Council #13307 –Ladies Auxiliary
Dear Ladies
Usually I write this column after our regular meeting on the first Thursday of the month. But since I have to write
this earlier that I usually do, as our Grand Knight ( who puts this newsletter together) is leaving for vacation, there is
not too much I can put together at this time.
One thing for certain, everyone who attended our “Luau” had a wonderful time. (Thank God that we lucked
out with the weather). Needless to say, we all enjoyed the music of Dan Fugazzotto and also his exhibition on the dance floor.
We will be looking forward to his dancing again on October 8th once again.
There was plenty to eat between the cocktail hour, the delicious dinner (thank you ,Mike) and of course dessert
and coffee.(Barbara, Marge and Rosemary made the desserts and it was good, and I mean good.).
Many of us (Not Me) went home with “door prizes” and the
lucky winners of the baskets were thrilled, and why not??
A very special “thank you” to all the Knights that helped in any way that they could, setting up, decorating,
clean-up, cook, bartender, and the selling of raffles for our baskets. For fear
that I may omit someone, it is best for me not to mention any names, but you guys know who you are. Thanks again.
A round of applause to our chairperson, Barbara (with the help of Marge and others) who put this all together.
She certainly went that extra mile and put a lot of time, and energy into making it the successful evening that it was.
I would like to thank Chris and Reggie, Oz and Marge and my husband , Sal, for helping me serve breakfast and lunch on September 11th
to the “Marriage Preparation” couples at the hall.
Just a reminder that our November meeting will be on Thursday, November 4th at 7PM in the parish hall—the
same time that the men have their meeting, ladies please try and join us and ride in with your husbands
Please, Ladies, join your husbands the third Sunday of each month at 11:30 for the Council Communion. It would
be so nice if we could show our support and have a large turnout.
As I mentioned before, Marie Becker has finished the “Butterfly Quilt”. We plan on selling raffles and announcing the winner at our “Big Show” in January.
If you know of any member that is under the weather, please give our “sunshine lady” Josephine a call
at 379-0597.
I hope that after the meeting October 7th we will be invited to join the Knights for refreshments.
Hope to see all of you at the next meeting .Let us pray for peace and each other .Let us not forget that “The
rainbows of life always follow the storms”.
God Bless. Loretta L. Naimo, President

November 2, 2004—Election Day
Carl A. Anderson, the Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, reminds
us that “We Knights have always taken seriously our civic responsibility to participate in the election process and
to encourage others to do so as well. On November 2, our nation will go to the polls to select those who will represent us
at the national, state and local levels of government.” He reminds us that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops declared
earlier this year,” In the Catholic tradition responsible citizenship is a virtue; participation in the political
process is a moral obligation…Every vote counts. Every act of responsible citizenship is an exercise of individual
power.”
Make sure that you cast your vote on November 2, and encourage your family and friends to vote also. Supreme Knight Anderson asks that, if possible, we volunteer
to help the elderly or handicapped people to get to the polls to vote. He also reminds us that our efforts can make a big
difference in voter turnout this year He thanks us in advance for making it possible
for everyone who wants to vote to do so. Get out the vote!!
Insurance
Did you know that of the approximately 1,8oo life insurance companies doing business in north America, only 5 have
been rated AAA by Standard & Poor’s, A++ by A. M. Best and qualified for membership in the Insurance Marketplace
Standards Association? The Knights of Columbus Life Insurance is proud to one of the five. If you have had any life changes
since you last bought a policy (new home, new child or grandchild, new job or retirement, thinking about long term care, etc.), chances are you need to have me work with you to review what you already have in insurance
and to make sure that you have the coverage you need at a price you can afford. Call me
and I will meet with you at your convenience and in your home.
