Grand Knight’s Column

Brother Knights

Our state has been hit very hard this summer by  Hurricanes Charlie and Frances and at the time of this writing, we are awaiting the arrival of Ivan There has been so much suffering and loss in Florida that it is beyond belief. In support of the Church “Outreach Program” Knights of this council and volunteers from St. Patrick’s Church have gathered, sorted and transported clothes, personal grooming supplies, school supplies, assorted cleaning and household supplies and some toys to the Catholic Charities Distribution point in Arcadia, where they were gratefully received. Our sincere thanks goes out to all who worked so hard and our prayers go to all those who may still be suffering that their needs will soon be fulfilled.

The Ladies Auxiliary has been selling tickets for their Hawaiian Luau which is being held on September 17th . The council will follow with a Free Breakfast for all the members of St. Patrick’s Church on September 26th.  All members of the council are asked to be at the parish hall to help with the work. We hope that we can receive candidates for entering our Order from this event. This could be considered as our Membership Blitz. Plans are now being made to hold an actual Blitz the weekend of October 2 and 3 at all doors to the Church. Please let Renato Carotti know at what mass you will be able to help recruit.

Tickets are now available for the 2nd Annual Harvest Moon Ball to be held on October 8th. at the Parish Hall. Our Chancellor, Bob Rivers, has the tickets. Tickets will go on sale Friday evening during the “Luau” and at all masses during the next two weekends. We need your help in making this a success. Contact Bod Rivers or Peter Pezzatti as to which mass you will sell the tickets. At this time, as there have been no-one from the Congregation nor the Parish Council volunteering to help with the Church picnic, we are close to making a decision to cancel this event as, our council cannot put on an event as this by themselves.

Due to the possible arrival of Hurricane Ivan and the resulting possible destruction , the Social evening on the 16th has been cancelled, but we still will need brother Knights to come to the Parish Hall and help set up the hall for the Ladies “Luau on Friday evening. Since October is the “Month of the Rosary”, plans are being made by Fr. Scheip and Brother Becker for an evening of the Rosary and an explanation of the new “mysteries” on our social night, 0ctober 21.Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. Our third meeting in Nov, the 18th , has been turned over to Chancellor Rivers for planning an event to recognize the altar servers of our parish. If someone would like to chair this event, please contact Brother Rivers.

Our District Deputy , Lenny Anzaleone, attended our business meeting on September 2nd. In his address to the council, he stressed the fact that the council is not a men’s club, nor an Elks club, etc, but a working council of the Knights of Columbus; that it takes all members of the council working together to create a successful council and unless this happens, he said, those that do attend to the workings of the council will get burned out, and the council could fail. It is your decision!

And now, may the Blessed Virgin Mary be ever remembered in your prayers and that her Son, Our Lord and Savior watch over you and your Families now and forever!

Your Grand Knight

Ozro N. Barclay

Chaplain’s Column

Dear Brother Knights

I think we are all glad to see the summer fade away, especially after enduring an unprecedented 3 major hurricanes within one month’s time. Psychologists speak of “storm fatigue”, whereby people become mentally and emotionally tired and anxious due to dangerous weather conditions. Because hurricanes take a long time to develop and travel, as well as their unpredictable

path, we can spend days on edge. Normal and routine days are displaced with a heightened sense of alert . of watching and waiting.

Jesus speaks a calming word to us, “Come to Me, you who are weary and heavy ladened, and I will give you rest.” There is also the story of our Lord calming the storm on the lake. We live in times of great uncertainty. Terrorism threatens the lives of the innocent, storms disrupt communities, values of decency are things of the past. These are troubling times. Now is the time to turn to God. Only by having a close walk with our Lord are we going to be able to not only endure difficulties, but overcome them.

October id traditionally designated as the month of the rosary. The spirituality of the knights of Columbus is strongly attached to the Blessed Mother. Our Council will be sponsoring a rosary Service on Thursday, October 21 beginning at 7:00 PM. A brief teaching on the Luminous Mysteries will be given, followed by the recitation of the rosary.  Please set aside this evening to join your Brother Knights and their Ladies in prater for our world, community, parish, and families.

Faithfully yours in Christ

Father Michael A. Scheip, Chaplain

Council #13307 –Ladies Auxiliary

Dear Ladies

Our September meeting had just a few members present than the month before. Many of our ladies are still on vacation, and unfortunately some were under the weather. Hopefully, next month, all our members will be back. I still hope and pray that more ladies will decide to join our group.  “The more the merrier” as the saying goes.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, 2004 at 7 PM in the parish hall—the same time the men have their meeting, so Ladies, please come and join us and ride with your husbands.

I would like to thank Geri Welch who donated her winnings on the 50/50 raffle back to the auxiliary for deposit. And to Diane Parotino  and Chris Boucher for filling in for our officers on vacation. Jobs well done, Ladies.

Ladies, please join your husbands the third Sunday of every month at the 11:30 Mass for the “Council Communion” It would so nice if we could show our support and have a large turnout.

Marie Becker finished the “Butterfly Quilt” and it is just beautiful, to say the least. All the ladies present would love to be the lucky winner, myself included. We plan on selling raffles and announcing the winner at our “Big Show” in January. Some of us turned in our “angels” for the next quilt to be raffled off upon its completion.

Thank you ladies for al your donations for our baskets that will be raffled off at the Luau. Abby McBride and I turned in our craft projects that Chris Boucher was kind enough to donate to everyone at our August meeting. For our first try at this, we didn’t do too badly.

Barbara Piccione went over the final plans for the “Laua”. Hopefully, it will turn out to be a fun and successful evening.

All in all, we had a very productive meeting. Thanks for your cooperation and to the members who were present.

If you know of any member that is under the weather, please give our “sunshine Lady”, Josephine,  a call at 379-0597.

After our meeting was adjourned, we were invited to join the Knights for refreshments..

Hope to see all of you at the next meeting

Let us all pray for peace and each other, and that these hurricanes come to an end.

God Bless.

Loretta L. Naimo, President
