Brother Knights

 My Brother Knights

We are beginning to enter into a busy season, when we can put the doldrums of summer behind us and enter into our calendar with enthusiasm and great expectations.

With the assistance of Father George and the office of Vocations, Diocese of Venice, we were placed in contact with a young seminarian in need of financial assistance. Communications with him have been established and he has been invited to come to our August Chicken Dinner where he can meet with members of the council. I might add, he is a Brother Knight and is doing his pastoral year in Bradenton.

Our social meeting is August 19th and our Guest Speaker will be our Brother, Neil Welch speaking on his experiences as an agent of the FBI. With regret, your Grand Knight accepted the resignation of our Membership Director Piccione , but was fortunate to have Brother Renato Carotti  accept that position. He is very eager to assist the Council to make great strides in attaining new members. We encourage all the men who have recently became members of the council to be eligible for the Supreme “Shining Knight Award”. Details for this Award are located elsewhere in this newsletter.

Beside our social activities in the forthcoming months, our Program Directors have announced plans to participate in Spelling Bee Contests, The Substance Abuse Poster contest and the Essay Program  as recommended by the Supreme Council and our State Council. We are also looking forward to receiving approval to start our Squires Program. As you can see, we are determined to make this council a true Knights Of Columbus council by working to fulfill all facets of our order—Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

We were spared the ravages of Hurricane Charlie through the mercy of our Lord and Savior, so now lets us all pray to Him for his compassion and aid to all who are suffering in our stead. May He show mercy to all who lost their lives during the storm, forgive them their sins and open the doors of Heaven to them. Amen.

And now, may the Blessed Virgin Mary be ever remembered in your prayers and that her Son, Our Lord and Savior watch over you and your Families now and forever!

Your Grand Knight

Ozro N. Barclay

4th Degree Assembly #0167

Faithful Navigator Report

Dear Sir Knights and Ladies

My first 4th degree Assembly meeting went well ,I think, with not too many mistakes. By me. One of our brother knights informed us about one of the seminarians, who is also a brother knight, that was having great financial difficulties. With the 23 Sir Knights that were present, we collected $234.00 for him. When he was given the money, he was extremely moved, and I will read his response at the next meeting.

Please keep in mind that the twenty week club tickets will have its first drawing in September. You do not need to be present to win Your odds of winning are now higher because all the tickets have not been sold.  Please get your tickets early from your Grand Knight.

It was nice to have our brother knights from Venice Assembly #1818 and Grove City Assembly #2782 for our installation of Officers. We also wish Bradenton ?Assembly #1860 continued growth and success.

The 4th degree exemplification is rapidly arriving. We have already have the information regarding hotel rooms and cost. Please see I\either Faithful Captain, Peter Sardina, or myself for information. Please don’t wait till the last day, as because of the overwhelming attendance last year, some knights had to stay in other hotels. Ant brother who has been a 1st degree member for 6 months and made his 3rd degree before November 1, 2004 , should apply for waivers from Supreme.

The installation of officers of the 4th degree will be on Saturday, August 28th, at 7:30

Officers meeting at 7:30 and Assembly Meeting  August 26,2004 at  8:00 PM St Patrick’s Parish Hall.

Fraternally, Your Faithful Navigator Don Donovan

Chaplain’s Column

I had to excuse myself from our last meeting and Installation Service due to allergies. Normally, the injection that I take keeps the symptoms under control. However, all the rain and wet weather has affected my voice and throat, making me sound like Froggy from Our Gang comedies. Our environment has a big impact on our health and wee-being. What we breath, consume, and where we live affects how we feel

My hope is that our knight’s council will have an impact and effect on our parish obviously not in an adverse way, but in a way that enriches the spiritual and social life of Saint Patrick Church. Pope John Paul often speaks about the need for a “new evangelization” to occur in the Church. What is new about this particular evangelization is that it address Roman Catholics, especially those who may have received the sacraments, but do not have a living relationship to God or are not active in a parish. The second largest denomination is made of lapse Catholics, those people who mat identify themselves as Catholic, but are not evangelized. In fact, there are more unchurched Catholics than there are Baptists in the USA. This is not a fact we should be proud of. And this is where the Knights can have an impact. Through our good works, dinners, and special devotions, we can touch the lives of the many Catholics in our area who are not active members of St Patrick’s and who might feel welcome to become a part of what God is doing here. Like rain and mold affect my health, the Knights are called to affect, for the better of the course, the lives of people by the love of Jesus Christ.

Thank you for your commitment to our Council.

Fr. Michael Scheip, Chaplain

Council #13307 –Ladies Auxiliary

Dear Ladies

Our August meeting had just a few members present what with vacations and other commitments. I hope and pray that more ladies will decide to join our group. Members, if at all possible, please try and attend our meetings; we can certainly use your suggestions.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 2,2004 at 7 PM in the parish hall—the same time the men have their meeting, so Ladies, please come and join us and ride with your husbands. Please remember to bring something in for our “baskets” that will be raffled off at the Luau.

I would like to thank Abby McBride who donated her winnings on the 50/50 raffle back to the auxiliary for deposit.

Ladies, please join your husbands the third Sunday of every month at the 11:30 Mass for the “Council Communion” It would so nice if we could show our support have a large turnout.

Barbara Piccione informed us  of the different jobs everyone will have at the Luau planned for September 17th. Some tickets were handed out to the members that were present. –now all we have to do is start selling them. Chris Boucher was kind enough to donate different crafts for us to do , and perhaps we’ll be able to sell or raffle them off.

I think we had a very productive meeting. Thanks for your cooperation and to the members who showed up.

If you know of any member that is under the weather, please give our “sunshine Lady”, Josephine,  a call at 379-0597.

After our meeting was adjourned, we were invited to join the Knights for refreshments..

Hope to see all of you at the next meeting

Let us all pray for peace and each other. God Bless.

Loretta L. Naimo, President

Recruiting:

We have a strong, and energetic Membership Director now who should help us to increase our membership drastically. But, my fellow Knights, he cannot do so by himself. He has asked for the help of 3-4 knights to join him as a recruiting team.  Come on, Brothers, hitch yourselves to the wagon and lets all pull together for the good of the Order. Besides the V.I.P. Program from the Supreme, your Council has authorized the purchase of several items that can be awarded to the top recruiter of each quarter, beginning with July I, 2004. This member will have a choice of one of three items. Transfers from another council who are current in dues will not count. If you are uncomfortable with talking to someone, complete a prospect card and let the recruiting team do it. In addition, we are going to promote the order’s shining award program to all

new Knights this fraternal year. To qualify for this award, the newly recruited member during their first year of membership must: Attend at least three business meetings

Actively participate in three service activities

          Meet with council insurance representative

Receive their Second and Third Degrees

By all getting behind this program, The COUNCIL WILL BE THE WINNER.

Your Grand Knight  Ozro Barclay
